Production Description

 

1. Deionization exchange: After water enters the EDI system, it first passes through the anion exchange membrane and cation exchange membrane. Under the action of the electric field, the cations in the water (e.g. Na⁺, Ca²⁺, etc.) are adsorbed by the anion exchange membrane, while the anions (e.g. Cl-, SO₄²-, etc.) are adsorbed by the cation exchange membrane. This process effectively reduces the concentration of ions in the water.

 

2. Desorption: After the initial deionization exchange, some of the ions that are not completely removed are further desorbed through the charged exchange resin. The resin, which is loaded with ions, is flushed by an electrolyte solution with a fixed opposite charge, causing the ions to dissociate from the resin and be replaced in the desorption solution by convection and diffusion.

 

3. Ions through the ion exchange membrane: under a certain current, water molecules are ionized into H⁺ and OH- ions, and these ions regenerate the failed resin, thus realizing the process of continuous water production and continuous regeneration. At the same time, the removed ions fall through the ion exchange membrane into the thick water chamber and are eventually discharged centrally.


4. Pre-treatment and post-treatment: In practice, EDI ultrapure water equipment usually also includes pre-treatment and post-treatment steps. Pre-treatment is designed to remove suspended solids, colloids, organics and other impurities in the water to protect the subsequent equipment; post-treatment may include UV sterilization, polishing resin filtration, etc. to further improve water quality.
